Imagine a flood that suddenly cover the ground of the forest with many inches of water. You would think that this should mean a doom for an anthill. But ants are clever. A fire ant colony infact can create a sort of living lifeboat. Linking the legs of each ant they take advantage of the surface tension of the water. This way they can save and keep dry the precious queen and larvae until they reach a dry ground again. Enjoy this amazing BBC video.
