In Japan there's a huge aquarium, actually the world's second largest behind the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, called Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. The flagship of this aquarium is the main tank, called the Kuroshio Sea, that holds 7,500 cubic metres (1,981,000 USgal) of water and features an acrylic glass panel measuring 8.2 by 22.5 metres (27 by 74 ft) with a thickness of 60 centimetres (24 in), the largest such panel in the world when the aquarium was opened. Whale sharks and manta rays are kept alongside more than 60 other fish species.In the video above you can see "The Kuroshio Sea" tank fimeld by Jon Rawlinson, a filmmaker based in Vancouver, Canada, specialized in documentary and commercial production.
My advice is to open the video full screen, with HD enabled and music on: you'll enjoy 5 minutes of pure relax in the middle of the ocean...

I think that the basin is not even big enough for one whale shark. Why do people always think that they can do everything they want??
ReplyDeleteFor the first look it is wonderfull experience. But I please you, think about it. The aquarium is too small for as many animals. Sea is very big and is there a lot of species animals, and they doesn't run across to other. But in this aquarium they have got very uneasy life conditions.
ReplyDeleteThose photos were breathtaking; I can't imagine myself to be in there. And those were pretty big. I am just imagining as if I was there in the photo. I have been to some places like this, but just only a small area.
ReplyDeleteI went there while I was stationed in Japan a few years back and it truly is a breathtaking place (in fact I have a few shots much like the ones here). They have quite a collection of sea turtles and a fairly entertaining dolphin show. Speaking of dolphins, this is also where they have the dolphin with a fully functional prosthetic tail fin.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree that the proper place for these animals is in the ocean, the reality is that these places raise awareness and contribute to conservation efforts in the "out of sight, out of mind" society we live in.
