Wow, no wonder they were hauling tons of this crap out the water near beijing before the olympics. Maybe our planet is in for a new evolutionary shift, where these organisms (plants like algea as well as bacteria) feed off our pollutants and eventually become the main "life" of our planet - therefore eliminating the diverse, complicated life we've seen uniquely on earth and reverting to a less unique collection of simple lifeforms seen fossilized on other planets... I love your blog by the way, the sea is one of my greatest interests and I hope to experience as much of it as possible before me or it's time runs out.
